The United States welcomes the outcome of the GBC meeting and the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand.

 (Washington): Deputy Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, Tommy Pigott, said the United States welcomes the outcome of the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting between Thailand and Cambodia on Thursday, August 7, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This is according to a statement from the U.S. Department of State.

In the aforementioned statement, Mr. Tommy Pigott said the United States welcomes the outcome of the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting between Thailand and Cambodia as a significant step in strengthening the ceasefire agreement and establishing an ASEAN monitoring mechanism. He continued that U.S. President Donald Trump and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio hope that the governments of Cambodia and Thailand will fully respect the commitment of both countries to end the conflict.

According to the same deputy spokesperson, the United States also thanks Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his leadership and for hosting the ceasefire talks, which were a direct result of his willingness to cooperate with the United States to organize a special meeting on July 28 to resolve the conflict between the two countries. Mr. Tommy Pigott added that the United States will continue to support Malaysia, ASEAN, as well as Cambodia and Thailand, as the ceasefire process moves forward.
