According to the same source, the Chief of the Armed Forces, General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar, has requested that Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim send a letter to the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia to allow Malaysian forces to enter the conflict zone with the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT).

He stated that the AOT team is composed of representatives from ASEAN countries and will be on the border to ensure and monitor that there are no violations of the ceasefire agreement.
