(Phnom Penh): The 7-country Interim Observer Team (IOT) on August 14, 2025, met with Lieutenant General Ek Sam Oun, Deputy Commander of the Army and Commander of the 5th Military Region, to listen to a report on the progress following the ceasefire between the Cambodian and Thai armies.

The meeting took place at the headquarters of Military Region 5. The IOT, which includes defense representatives from Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Vietnam, is led by Malaysia's Defence Attaché. Its mission is to assess the security situation along the border in areas affected by recent conflict.

The deployment of the IOT was an outcome of meetings between Cambodia and Thailand to de-escalate tensions and enforce a ceasefire agreed upon on July 28, 2025, following border clashes. The 5th Military Region of the Royal Cambodian Army is headquartered in Battambang and covers the northwestern provinces of Battambang, Pursat, Banteay Meanchey, and Pailin.
